"Solving Puzzles in the Dark"
The piece depicts the joy, the sorry, and the hope of living and caring someone with Autism. Opening in a plaintive mournful fashion the works explores the step by step manner in not only education, but also the everyday life skills we all take for granted. One of the symbols for Autism is a ribbon comprised of multicolored puzzle pieces, hence the title and reference.
It is dedicated to those who live, love, and help someone with Autism.
Set to premiere May 22nd at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano TX

Similar to wandering* behaviors in seniors with dementia or Alzheimer’s, children and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are prone to wandering away from a safe environment. Typically they will leave to get to something of interest, such as water, the park, or train tracks -- or to get away from something, such as loud noises, commotion, or bright lights.
Dangers associated with wandering include drowning, getting struck by a vehicle, falling from a high place, dehydration, hyperthermia, abduction, victimization and assault.
Because children with autism are challenged in areas of language and cognitive function, it can be difficult to teach them about dangers and ways to stay safe.

Autism Plugged In is a place to combine my passion about gadgets with my desire to assist children with Autism. I began volunteering with special needs kids through our community’s Special Recreation Association and their recreational camps and have developed a passion for ensuring that kids with autism are able to get the assistance and education necessary to connect them with their world. The iPad, iPhone, iPod, and various other handheld devices have been successfully used for educating and entertaining these special kids. They are an easy-to-use and affordable way to enhance an autistic child’s learning environment, and I’m here to help walk you through the various apps available to those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related disabilities.
